The Rules

MBA Constitution

The Midnight Basketball Association was created for the sole purpose of bringing together high quality individuals that share a common love for the NBA.

The MBA constitution outlines the general guidelines, rules and governance for this premier fantasy basketball league.

Rules and Regulations:

BASICS:

8 category fantasy league.
Points, Assists, Rebounds, Steals, Blocks, FG%, 3-pts MADE, and FT MADE
Rotessiere scoring
Annual membership fee is $600, with the proceeds paying for league management and the remainder going to the League Championship “Pool.”  (payouts described below).

DRAFT:

Every season a draft night will be held.  First 6 rounds of the draft are by auction.  Each owner begins with $100 million in salary.  This amount is to be used to bid on and build their first 6 players.  (This sum may not be traded with other owners, and is null and void at the end of round 6).

Rounds 7-13 are completed in a normal snake draft.  Owners select numbers out of the MBA Cup.

REGULAR SEASON:

Rosters must be set on the website (TQ Stats) by 2pm (PST).

Each week owners may pick up free agents.  These are picked up in reverse order of the standings.

In addition, as a help to the team in last place, that owner receives the top 2 picks for each of the first 2 weeks of the season.

Free agent “slots” may be traded between owners.

Commissioner is to send their personal team’s selections to one of the “founding fathers” on a weekly basis before 2pm (PST).

Trading deadline is 4 weeks before the end of the season.

The season ends 1 week before the end of the NBA season.

TRADES:

Trades take effect on the Monday of the following week.
All trades are allowed, except none may be made that “borrow” another player.
All trades should be in good faith, and avoid collusion or restriction of free trade by other owners in the MBA.
Any trade that is disputed may be done so in writing to the “founding fathers.”  Majority vote will rule.

ALL*STAR RE-DRAFT

Each year at the all-star break for the NBA, the MBA will hold a supplemental 4-round draft to insure that lower-ranked teams have a chance to improve at the expense of the higher-ranked teams during the second half of the season.

This event is hosted at a different city each year.

At the supplemental draft, each team is permitted to hold 6 players as part of their permanent team.  All others are put back into the free agent pool.  The MBA owners then engage in a 4 round draft of the free agents with the last place team having the first pick in each round (except the 3rd round where order is determined by a blind pick from the Cup).  After 4 rounds, each owner recaptures the players he dropped that were not picked during this re-draft, and continues the rest of the season with these 13 players (trades and free agent pick-ups continue as previously discussed).

WINNINGS:

Each year’s champion will be awarded based on final point standings.  Ties will be broken based on owner’s selected NBA team’s winning record.

MBA Champion will have their team name placed on the MBA Championship Cup, and retain ownership of the cup until the next year’s champion is crowned.

Championship Payout Schedule:

            1st Place:               50%
            2nd Place:               25%
            3rd Place:               15%
            5th Place:               10%

RULE CHANGES:

The Founding Fathers will have an annual MBA rules meeting.  Proposed rule changes should be submitted 1 week prior to this annual event.

New rules will be communicated via email, and then posted at this website prior to Draft Night for the ensuing year.
